Set on Doing the Will of God

Full Context: Mark Chapter 3 King James Version

Mark 3:34-35 (KJV)
34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

This was Jesus response on a day that he was teaching to the multitudes when He received word that His mother and brethren called for Him, while He was doing the work of the ministry. Word had gone out that Jesus was beside Himself. He had healed a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath in the synagogue. The Pharisees took issue with this and began to conspire with the Herodians on ways to destroy Him. Jesus departed with His disciples and the multitudes followed. People came from Jerusalem, Idumaea, beyond Jordan, Tyre and Sidon. Jesus was healing people from plagues and unclean spirits. The multitudes were so great that Jesus told His disciples to get a small ship to assist Him before the persistence of the people throng (pack) Him into a small area.

Have you ever been so persistent with your will to be with God that it prompted Him to make adjustments to heal and deliver you?

After much healing and casting out devils, Jesus then went up on a mountain and called whom he would: and they came unto Him. Jesus then ordained twelve to be with Him and then He would later send them to preach, have power to heal sickness and cast out devils.

Have your willingness to yield your will to God’s will and be a servant prompted Jesus to ordain you for a greater work?

After Jesus ordained His disciples, they went into a house to eat. However; they were unable to because the persistence of the multitudes found them at the house. Jesus then began to preach to the multitudes again! The scripture say’s in Mark 3:21 And when His friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on Him: for they said, He is beside Himself.

Have you ever been so persistent with your will to be with God that those who are with Him become so surprised by His response, that they could say “He is beside Himself!”?

Jesus addresses accusations of the Pharisees, who was amongst the multitude and claimed He was casting out devils by use of devils (Beelzebub). He went on to discuss how Satan cannot cast out Satan, a kingdom or a house divided cannot stand. Another way this can be stated is that there are only two wills; the will of God or the will of Satan. The will of God establishes His kingdom and the will of Satan is to establish his kingdom, which, by default, is contrary to God’s kingdom. Ironically, as Jesus was speaking to the multitudes, He was told that His mother and brethren were calling for Him. This leads to His statement: Behold my mother and my brethren! 35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

Jesus was so set on doing the will of God that not even His mother could distract Him. It appears as though their concern that Jesus was “beside Himself”, lead to them reaching out to His mother and attempting to impose their will on His. They appeared to have legitimate concerns for His well being, however; their unawareness of God’s will at that time could have brought about the very division that Jesus was just speaking about. Jesus needed them to be a part of His house or kingdom! Any other will is simply division! 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. (Matthew 12:30) KJV

Be encouraged to seek after Jesus with all your will! Be set on doing the will of God because, Jesus is! Jesus said; My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work. (John 4:34) KJV Be careful not to compromise doing the right thing by trying to do a good thing and know that when you do; Jesus considers you family!
